It has been 3 years since my last blog and a lot has happened...... I am now the minister of 2 churches one in Motherwell the other in Bellshill. The football team have won Div 2 and been promoted in the same year they also won the cup. this year the goalkeeper that I used to mention died and so a large funeral was held for him conducted by myself.
My views and opinions have probably changed slightly over the past few years on various thoughts about church and religion. Still not liking religion much and faith has become more important to me over these past few years. Being a minister of two churches has also changed what I think about different things as well. I now look at infant baptism, weddings and funerals for the non churched people as part of my mission field and try to look at them in a missiological way rather than a duty or a must.... This is a radical change as before I would not have considered doing them outside of the church family, (with the exception of funerals).
My main thought pattern over recent years has been how can the church go from doing church to 'being' church in a broken and hurting community that at times is divided, at times more of society knows what the church is against rather than what it is for and too often the church has put up major barriers to people entering in and joining us on the faith journey. It is hard to walk with people that we don't like or disagree with. Very much easier to walk with those who agree and like us....and so my thought is this if we love God with everything that we are and our neighbour as ourselves the whole loving the person we don't like becomes much easier as it isn't so much about us or our love for the person but God's love which should flow through us making it easier to journey with the broken people of society. That is our aim as a church in the community of Bellshill to journey with those who are bout in the wilderness, to love them and serve them no matter where they are at as the sign says -'All are welcome'.
Cup 1/4 final this weekend for St. Andrew's which everyone is really looking forward to. Cup semi final next weekend as well all very exciting as we go through the process of building the team back up again. Loving life, Loving God, Loving family and Loving the journey.
Every Blessing to all who read this blog.
