The Women

I went to see the movie The Women last night with No. 1 daughter.  It was funny and enjoyable but I have to say the themes that run through it and the focus of some of the points being made ruined what could have been a very good film.  The actors were extremely good and really made the film worth watching but it was not a movie that I will remember ... unlike my first viewing of Rush Hour 3 when I was 8 months pregnant with the boy!  I laughed so much, and was well aware I was enjoying one of the last nights of baby free time with hubby for a while, that made the film even more funny.  I think I had some black cherry and dark chocolate ice cream too! 

It's No 1 daughter's birthday this week so going to see the movie last night was a good excuse for some mum and daughter time,but we are off to Stirling for the day on Saturday in preparation for the National Children's Assembly in Aviemore in a few weeks so that will be good.  Looking forward to it! 

Holiday Weekend

Just back from a lovely weekend here with my hubby, all the kids and my mum. 

Lots of exercise was had by all with swimming every day (sometimes twice!) and all the cycling.  The pathways were much more hilly than in Sherwood but fortunately it was down hill to our lodge so it was always quick to get home, and we were really close to all the facilities anyway!

Kids loved the outdoor and indoor play areas, which were right next to Starbuck!  How great that was!!!

Highlights of the weekend included watching the kids delight in the fabulous subtropical swimming paradise, a couple of hours walking around and enjoying the scenery for just me and hubby (we would love much more of that and are now wondering if it would be at all possible to have a weekend by ourselves there!?!) and watching the film The Notebook for the first time, which had a profound affect on me!  The Notebook is a story of life and love, and totally captures the essence of what marriage, passion and devotion are all about (till death us do part).  I was so blown away by the ending that I wept for at least half an hour - and our oldest daughter took some joy in reminding everyone that they shouldn't have let me watch the film in the first place.  I know I really am an old romantic at heart, but I was particularly taken aback by the depth of love and devotion depicted in this film.  I was reminded of how blessed we are in our marriage to share the kind of love we do and reminded also of the perfect plans God has purposed through marriage.  It's a must to watch!!!

Holiday passtimes

We had a good start to the holiday weekend today, first with lunch out and then a trip to the cinema.  On the way to the cinema we stopped in to the Easter display that one of the EK churches have put together in the town centre.  Our girls were eager to see what was there and were met by a very enthusiastic man eager to share the Easter story.  Our 6 year old stole his thunder a bit by explaining to him the significance of the cross and the empty cave.  He caught on that she obviously came from a church background.  In a bid to help him out I asked our daughter to ask him about some of the things we'd been talking about lately.  So she asked him about the new heaven and new earth, and about the return of Christ, and I smiled as he explained and she listened intently - nodding her head as though she understood every word as he spoke about God's church and righteousness.  She and our 2 year old daughter then added a prayer to the many nailed to a cross and we went on to the cinema to see the animated film 'Horton Hears a Who'.

It's a lovely film where Horton the elephant is trying to protect the Who people from a moralising kangaroo and her hench folk.  No one believes Horton that the Who people live on a spec on a clover so he tries to get them to a safe place out of harms way and the people of Who-ville need to work together to make their presence known to the unbelievers.  The other hero of the film is JoJo, the Major of Who-ville's son, who has an ingenious plan to help save the people.  The kids loved it and I thought it quite apt for Easter - well worth watching.
