So I spent the day in Stirling with the rest of the staff team in preparation for the second ever national children's assembly in Scotland on 7-9th Nov 2008. As well as the many delegated from Church of Scotland presbyteries, many other Christian denominations have been invited to send delegates ... so I will be wearing my Episcopal hat, and two young people from our church are going. It looks to be a great weekend and to get us focused the Rev Linda Pollock spoke this morning from the text in Matt 18 - and excellent it was. Someone mentioned that there is a sense of this event and the children participating being 'history makers', and I have pictures of reading church history books in 30 years time where there is documented information on how instrumental this was in helping the church to not only listen to children but to ground theological convictions of children in effective practice for the sake of Jesus and the furtherance of the kingdom. What a privilege to be involved.
